$1.5 m for Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize

Singapore Millennium Foundation has given a sponsorship of $1.5 million to the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize which honours individuals and organisations for their outstanding contribution towards solving the world's water problems.
The foundation will be the sole sponsor for five years.
The prize is named after Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, who has played an instrumental role in shaping Singapore's water story and ensuring that the country has a sustainable supply of water.
The laureate will get $300,000, a gold medallion and award certificate for contribution towards solving the world's water problems through innovatibve technologies, or implenting policies and programmes which benefit humanity.
Nominations for the LKY Water Prize is open and will close on Dec 15.
It is open to chief executive officers and chief technology officers of multi-national companies and water utilities, leading academics in water research, policy and management, leaders of international organisations, members of government, as wll as individuals in the water field.
The Prize will be the highlight of the first Singapore International Water Week which will be held from June 23 to 27, 2008, at the Suntec centre.
